On Friday, 23rd of August I will set off with my son Tim, his mate Jarred and his father Kevin on our planned "Father and Son" Outback Loop Wallaby. The plan is to leave Adelaide early Friday morning and drive to Farina, this was the original Leigh Creek and is being restored by volunteers, via Port Augusta.
Jarrod drove a Mazda BT50 twin cab ute with a Norweld Canopy and Tim was in his recently acquired 2014 Toyota 200 Series Land Cruiser.
From Farina we will head up the Oodnadatta Track to Oodnadatta via Maree and William Creek roads permitting.
Once in Oodnadatta we will head out to Dalhousie Springs and then follow the The French Line into the NT and on to Birdsville approximately 438.61 km D/S to Birdsville.
From Birdsville we will head out to Innaminka and then on to Balconna via the Strzelecki Track, then on to Blinman to return to Adelaide via the Flinders Ranges.
Time permitting we may camp at Alpana Station in their Nungawurtina Hut is a pine and pug hut built in 2002 in the traditional style as of the 1880s from native pine and local stone. Nestled in a valley 7kms from Alpana homestead, this is a true Flinders retreat for those people who need to get a little closer to nature and would like the comfort of a warm, dry, cosy hut. It sleeps 6 on three bunk beds and has an open fire, table, chairs, crockery and cutlery for six, 2 ring gas stove, kitchen sink, 12 volt solar powered lights, outdoor fireplace and pit toilet. The hut is perfect for bush walking, nature watching, relaxing and getting away from it all. I have driven out to the hut before when we had the van on site. It is a great spot.
