Oodnadatta and the Simpson Desert

We arrived in Oodnadatta at 11.40 am on the 25th of August and re-fuelled and the set out for Dallhousie Springs. Our plan was to go to Dallhousie and from there drive back to Mt Dare to re-fuel ensuring we had full tanks and spare jerry cans also full of fuel to make it across the Simpson Desert to Birdsville.
In hind site we would no recommend this to people travelling from Oodnadatta to the Simpson on the West to East route. Keep it simple and fill up at Oodnadatta and drive straight out to the Simpson. We doubled back for little or no gain and our first day into the Simpson only took us as far as Purni Bore camp. A good start but if we had not gone back to Mt Dare we could possibly have been 140 k further into the Simpson.
The birdlife at Purni Bore was incredible but we discovered their presence was due to a burst water main from the bore to the header tank. We reported this to the SA National Parks.

We are in Birdsville (30/8/19) just catching up on the Blog as we have not had coms since we left Orroroo SA. I will catch up.
